Situated south east of Rwanda along the Rwanda-Burundi border is Nyungwe forest , regarded as one of the best preserved montane forests in East & Central Africa. The forest park is home to 13 primate species including the chimpanzees, olive baoon, Angola colobus, red-tailked monkey, golden monkey, silver monkey, L’hoest monkeys among others. Nyungwe forest is also home to 85 mammal species, over 275 bird species, 32 amphibian species and up to 38 reptile species.
Getting there – Distance from Kigali city to Nyungwe forest is about 225 kms and a road trip is takes about 6 to 7 hours but only an hour if you are driving from Cyangugu or Kibuye town
